The first of the new Brush 1250hp diesel electric locomotives

Advert Titled The first of the new Brush 1250hp diesel electric locomotives

The Westinghouse Brake & Signal Company supplied brake parts for many of the UK diesel locomotives and in this January 1958 advert the Brush-built Type 2 is featured. The image shows D5500, the first loco built, from the first batch of 20 vehicles. To these they contributed the "Vacuum Controlled Straight Air Brake". This provided air brakes on the locomotive and control of the vacuum brakes on hauled stock. They also supplied the compressor to provide the air pressure for operating the brakes, sanding and raising fuel.
