This October 1959 advert features three different types of diesel electric locomotive on British Railway the were powered by Sulzer diesel engines rated between 1160 to 2500hp. In the images D1 "Scafell Pike" represents the 2,500hp Type 4 which would later become a Class 44 when TOPS was introduced. It had a 12LDA28 twin-bank engine. The loco was built in British Railways own workshops as was one of the other two locomotives illustrated, both of which were Type 2s fitted with the 6LDA28 engine. The BR loco - D5000 - would be classed as a Class 24. The other - D5300 - was built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company (BRC&W) and would become a Class 26.
