The Phosphor Bronze Company was part of the Birfield Group which this April 1959 advert notes also included other well know railway suppliers Hardy Spicer and Laycock Engineering. For the English Electric prototype Deltic - at the time the most powerful diesel-electric lomotive in the world - they supplied aluminium bronze (DTD 412 alloy) gudgeon pin bushes which part of the piston assembly. The photograph shows the locomotive hauling a passenger train past a motive power depot.
