Napier Deltics Power the World's Most Powerful Locomotives

Advert Titled Napier Deltics Power the World's Most Powerful Locomotives

This February 1959 advert was from the period between the British Transport Commission placing the order for the 22 Type 5 3,300hp Deltic diesel-electric locomotives (later designated as Class 55s) and them being delivered. The artwork features the prototype vehicle built by English Electric. It and the new build each contained two of Napier's 18-cylinder Deltic locomotives. It also mentions the previous order placed with D. Napier & Sons to supply the power units for ten 1,100hp locomotives. These, with just one engine per loco, would become known as "Baby Deltics" and designated as Class 23s.
