Advert Titled Mirrlees are Contributing to British Railways Modernisation Scheme

This advert appeared in August 1958 during the early days of the Brush Type 2, the advert noting that D5500 was the first of twenty locos. They would become Class 30s with the introduction of TOPS. The Mirrlees JVS12T engine proved to be one of the most disappointing thing about these diesel locomotives, and in the late 1960s they were re-engined with English Electric power units. The adverts notes that "a selected group" of BR maintenance staff were being trained in the Mirrlees Works. The locomotive shown is D5500. The company - full name Mirrlees, Bickerton and Day Limited - was part of the Hawker Siddeley Group, as was Brush Traction Limited, the locomotive builders.

This advert appears in the following categories: Traction: Class 30/31 ; Supplier: Mirrlees ; Component: Diesel Engines (Power Unit)
