Marconi's Hand in Railway Communication
The main image in this 1958 advert from the Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Company Limited is the English Electric prototype Deltic, but sadly it does not say how what it contributed to this locomotive. In the smaller illustrations a GWR steam loco is shown for "VHF verbal communication in use to control shunting operations" - the operator has a box strapped to his back with a huge aerial; a brake van looks to be getting uncoupled (or coupled) for "a television check is kept on markings during marshalling operations"; a what looks to be a cab of a diesel shunter with the driver on a telephone for "train crews communicate with distant control points while on the run".
