This advert from April 1959 extols the production work with electric traction that British Thomson-Houston (an A.E.I. company) was doing for "Britain's Electric Railways". The drawing shows a 25kV a.c. electric loco of which "BTH are building twenty-five complete" with an interesting wrap round band at waist level. They would be designated as AL1s and later as Class 81s. It also notes they were supplying the "electric traction equipment for another forty" (the BR built AL5/Class 85s). In addition a.c. electric equipment (incorporating geranium rectifiers) was also being supplied to the British Transport Commission which would be used in the AM4 (Class 304) electric multiple units being built at Wolverton.
